Small droppings

Mouse droppings are small and pointed, about the size of a grain of rice. Rat droppings are larger, and bat guano is crumbly and shiny with insect parts.

Larger droppings

Squirrel droppings are rounded and brown. Raccoons leave larger tubular droppings in one spot called a latrine, and opossum droppings are similar but more scattered.

Handle with care

Never sweep or vacuum droppings dry. That sends dust into the air. Wear gloves and a respirator, wet the area with disinfectant and wipe up. For larger amounts, call a professional.
