Check the roof edge
Look for gaps where the roof meets the wall, chewed soffits and loose fascia. Squirrels and raccoons pick the weakest spot.
Check vents and chimney
Make sure roof vents, gable vents and dryer vents have heavy screens. Cap the chimney, and check the cap for rust or gaps.
Check the yard
Trim branches back from the roof, move woodpiles away from the house and look under decks and porches for digging.
